DEATH OF AN OLD SOLDIER
At 11 o'clock yesterday morning HENRY A. SIMMONS, an old soldier died at the county
hospital. On Monday night he was found by the officers in a critical condition, on the
sidewalk near the corner of Fifth and North Streets. The old gentleman was taken to the
county hospital and the county physician sent for. The patient sank rapidly and died at
the time named.
The deceased was an old and faithful soldier, having first enlisted in the old 10th
Indiana, under CAPTAIN CHRIS MILLER, in the three months service. He was discharged with
the regiment and came home and soon went into the 10th (Cox's) Battery, and served
with that until the close of the war.
He was about 60 years old, and had exposed himself considerable of late years, and his
death was no doubt caused by exposure in the field and since his return home.
The funeral will take place from the residence of MRS. ADAMS, on North Fourth street, at
10 o'clock this morning. His old comrades in the army will attend in a body.
