MRS. ANDREW WATTS died at her home in Dayton, Monday, February 23. At the time of her
death she was 77 years old, having been born in Virginia in 1814. She came to Dayton with
her parents, MR. and MRS. GEORGE PIPER, in 1830, and was married in 1838 to JAMES WATTS.
They moved to Burlington, Ind., shortly after their marriage where they lived until just
before the war. Then they moved to Delphi where she resided until last fall. Her husband
died about eighteen years ago, since which time she has made her home with her son, JAMES
WATTS. The appointment of Mr. Watts as clerk of the United States Court at Prescott,
Arizona, last summer made it necessary for the deceased to come to Dayton, and make her
home with her sister, MRS. T.D. PAIGE.
MRS. WATTS has been in declining health for several years past with that arch fiend of
life, consumption, which at last culminated in her death. She was a member of the M.E.
church, and had been since her early life. Through the long battle with the grim monster,
she bore her sad affliction with christian fortitude, and is now no doubt in a world where
disease and sorrow will never reach her.
There were short services at ther home this morning and the remains were taken to Delphi
for interment.
NOTE: My marriage index shows that a Drusilla Piper married an Andrew Watts, September 6,
1832. This is the only Piper/Watts marriage found in the early marriage index for
Tippecanoe County.
