"HOMER Q. EARL
"HOMER Q. EARL, 62. 1336 Sunnymede Ave., an attorney prominent in Republican
politics and former member for 13 years of the University of Notre Dame Law School, died
at 9:30 a.m. today in Memorial Hospital after becoming ill suddenly Wednesday night. Mr.
EARL was a member of the local law firm of Goheen, Earl and Eichler.
"The body was taken to Welsheimer Funeral Home where friends may call after 4 p.m.
Friday.
"Mr. EARL, who had been a candidate for various offices on the Republican ticket
since he came to South Bend from Chicago in September of 1927, was born in Tippecanoe
County, Indiana, Aug. 22, 1893. He was graduated from Wabash College, Crawfordsville,
Ind., in 1918, and from the school of law of the University of Chicago in 1927. In World
War I he was a sergeant in the 27th Field Artillery.
"EARL was principal of the Chester Township Schools in Wabash County, Indiana,
from 1919 to 1923; teacher in Peru, Ind., High School in 1923 and 1924, and became
associate professor of law at the University of Notre Dame in 1929 to serve until 1942.
In 1944 he was candidate for the first time for the office of prosecuting attorney. He
was married 25 years ago Wednesday to HELEN FRIBLEY, Bourbon, Ind.
"He was admitted to practice in the courts of St. Joseph County, the Supreme Court
of Indiana and the U. S. District Court in 1927.
"Mr. EARL was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lambda Chi Alpha social
fraternity, Gamma Eta Gamma professional fraternity, the South Bend Knife and Fork Club,
the St. Joseph County Bar Assn., the Izaak Walton League and the American Legion."

"EARL - Funeral services for HOMER Q. EARL, 1336 Sunnymede Ave., will be at 3 p.m.
Saturday [25 June] in the Welsheimer Funeral Home with burial in Bourbon, Ind. Rev. Paul
E. Chalfant, pastor of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, will conduct the service. Surviving
besides, his widoww, HELEN, are two daughters, MARY T. and ELEANOR F., both at home, and
three brothers, THOMAS M., of Roann, Ind.; Carroll, of Chillicothe, O., and JOHN A., of
Lincoln, Neb. Pallbearers will be Robert A. Grant, William C. Gammons, George Eichler,
Roland Obenchain Jr., DeVere Goheen and John L. Warrick."
