Message Board Post:
I am seeking any descendants of Nelson F. (Franklin) Smith, who was born
abt.1808,
possibly in RI or Bristol Co., MA. By 1840 he was in Indiana
Census LaFayette, Tippecanoe, IN with his family: wife "Lonny" or
"Lanny"
(probably a nickname), and their children: Manda; Robert. Nancy, Garny or
Ganby, William, Elizabeth and, I believe, Nelson. Nelson F. Smith had a
brother, Lucius D. Smith, living in New London, Oneida Co., NY, and received
a letter from Nelson F. from LaFayette, IN in 1843. There may have been
another brother, Edward Smith, also. If anyone knows anything about this
person or descendants, please reply. This family may have had Native
American blood, though by 1830s were "passing" as White and accepted as
White on census 1840, NY. Some surnames connected with family were:
Darling; Arnold; Kinney, and possibly Link or Palmer.
