ANDREW J. DAVIS: The subject of this brief sketch was born Sept. 10, 1832, and passed from
life March 8, 1893, at Clarks Hill, Ind., from disability contracted in the service; his
father, LEVI DAVIS is deceased. He was united by marriage Aug. 29, 1872, in Tippecanoe
county, Ind., to SARAH E. CROUCH, whose parents, ANDREW and REBECCA (COLLINS) CROUCH, have
long since passed away; his wife was a native of Indiana born Aug. 25, 1852. Two children
were the issue of this union: JENNIE born Nov .17, 1878, and EVERETT V. born Sept. 22,
1883. When disunion threatened our nation, our subject was engaged in farming and was 29
years old. In response to the president’s call for troops to suppress the rebellion, he
was living in Fountain county, Ind., where he was enrolled April 30, 1864, as a private in
Co. B, 135th Ind. V. I. He did not take part in any battles as his services consisted of
scouting, skirmishing, guard and garrison duty; his term of service having expired, he
wa!
s granted an honorable discharge Sept. 21, 1864, at Indianapolis, Ind. Comrade DAVIS was
a member of Geo. Wright Post, 185, until his death; his widow is in receipt of a pension
and her address is Clarks Hill, Ind.
