Thanks you so much for the cemetery links. It helps so much to see where some of the
family is buried and who they lost as children. I can't as yet prove James Snider was
Sarah Ann's brother but their parents were both William Snider and Sarah Baccus, they
both lived in Ross County, Ohio , and James son says that Sarah ended up in Illinois. I
believe that about says it all.
I am working with a Pike County cousin who I am related to both on my father's side
thru some Neeley'sand my mother's side already thru the Hulls, to make the rest of
the Snider connections in Pike Cty.with Sarah Hull and Catherine Snider Sperry, Mary
Snider Barkley, and Elizabeth Snider Lewis Hornbeck. The cousin knows that Mary and
Catherine were sisters. I found Sarah Baccus Snider living with Elizabeth. And common
sense says that Sarah Ann Snider Hull is their sister, too.
I will gladly post what is pertinent from the bible pages but it was started by Simon Hull
and Sarah Ann Snider Hull so that it only has the one fact about William Snider marrying
Sarah Baccus on Feb.5,1801 in it.
Simon Hull was the son of David Denton Hull, and a descendent of George Hull from
Connecticut. There is a large book documenting the George Hull family in America. My line
goes from Simon back, thru David Denton, Ezekiel, Nathaniel, Nathaniel, Cornnelius,
Cornelius, to George. David Denton Hull apparently was born in New York, then came thru
Virginia to Ohio--landing in Ross County.
Sarah Ann Snider was born in Ross County, Ohio,we believe--certainly in Ohio in1822. She
and Simon married October 2, 1842 Ross County(per bible and his obit) and his obituary
sayes he soon after brought her to Barry,Ilinois in Pike County, Illinois where they spent
the rest of their lives. They were Baptists.
His dad and mother -Denton and Lydia - and his brothers and sisters also came to Barry.
Two of his Hull cousins--James and Thomas, sons of Samuel (who was a brother to
Ezekiel)also came very early to Pike County(1830's) and settled near what was to be
Kinderhook and Hull--a few miles west of Barry. Hull was named for Simon's brother
another David Denton Hull. The Sperry's and Hull's intermarried in Pike County.
So Simon and Sarah Hull had six children. Four of them died young:
(per bible) William Denton 1843-1843-(9 months)
Luff Smith 1845-1852(7 years)
Lydia 1848-1848(3 months)
Mary Caroline 1851-1852(10 months)
and Alice Hull married Ezra Lewton
She lived 1854-1922
and Ida March Hull married Miles B Hoyt (my g grandparents)
She lived 1859-1929
Alice Mae Hull Lewton spent her married life in Laddonia, Missouri in Audrain County. Ida
March stayed in Barry.
William Denton was named for middle names of the grandfathers, Lydia was named for
Simon's mom, Luff Smith is a favorite Hull name, but I don't know where Mary
Caroline or the other two girls names came from. I suspect after they lost the four they
might have quit naming them after family.
I have found per family histories on the web that the Baccus family was in Fayette
County,Penn. Then some went to Scioto County,Ohio. One branch even ended up in another
part of Pike County,Illinois. Sniders appear to have been in Loudin Cty,VA then Penn.,
then Ross County, Ohio. Then at least James Snider went to Tippecanoe. Jacob Snider was
there also as was John Snider apparently.
It is known that William and Sarah Snider had nine grown children. I think we are onto
many of them.
