WOW! This looks very promising, to say the least. Chances are that, despite the common
given names, my John and William's John were the same person.
If Sarah (Baccus/Backus) Snider/Snyder outlived John (who died between August 1841 and 1
Dec 1843; the Ridgway book says 1842), and if she left a probate/estate record, it might
show John's children inheriting his portion. That would prove beyond a doubt that my
John was a son, not a nephew.
See, I'm trying hard not to jump to conclusions! However, I have the feeling that
we're on the right track. I am not always right -- only 99% of the time (lol).
Thank you so much for leaping in and letting me know about all of this. My John has been a
genealogical orphan ever since I learned of him late in 1992. I know his wife's
ancestry from the Ridgway book, but he hasn't fit in anywhere.
Here's hoping that further developments will give him back to his family.
