ADDISON S. PARKS: Was born in Oldham county, Ky., Nov. 29, 1839, of parents, SAMUEL and
REBECCA (DEJARNETTE) PARKS, neither of whom are living. He came to this county in 1859 and
on April 11, 1869, was wedded to ISABELLE PIERCE. His wife was born in Tippecanoe Co.,
Dec. 7, 1842, and passed to her reward Feb. 2, 1878. She was a daughter of JOHN and SARAH
(CAMPBELL) PIERCE, deceased. He married secondly, April 19, 1879, SARAH PIERCE, a sister
of his first wife. Three children were the issue of this marriage: JOHN A., WILLIAM E. and
CHESTER L. Comrade PARKS was engaged in farming when the late war broke out and enlisted
July 27, 1861, at Clarks Hill, Ind. He was enrolled as a private in Co. G, 26th Ind. V.
I., 13th and 16th A.C., and was subsequently promoted to Corp. Dec. 7, 1862, he was twice
wounded at the battle of Prairie Grove, in the leg and a slight wound in the jaw. In July,
1863, he was ill with chronic diarrhea and cared for in Convalescent Camp at Carrolton,
La., !
six weeks. He was honorably discharged January 31, 1864, at Brownsville, Tex., and
re-enlisted there the following day as a veteran, thus obtaining a veteran's furlough
of thirty days. He toolk active part in the engagements of Prairie Grove, Siege of
Vicksburg, Siege of Mobile, Spanish Fort, and numerous skirmishes. He was honorably
discharged Jan. 15, 1866, at Vicksburg, Miss. His father served in 13th Ky. V. I., and
died in hospital at Evansville, Md. His brothers, FRANCIS in 6th Ky., who was killed at
Murfreesboro, and LOGAN, a member of a Ky. Regt., died in service, both served in the
Union army. His wife's brother MARION served in Co. G, 26th Ind. V. I., and was
wounded at Prairie Grove. His grandfathers, HUGH PARKS and ELIAS DEJARNETTE both served in
the War of 1812 and an uncle, JOHN PARKS served in a Ky. Regt. during the Mexican war.
