WILLIAM H. B. MCKAMEY: A native Virginian, was born Jan. 13, 1838, and settled in
Tippecanoe county, Ind., in 1855. His parents, who are no longer numbered among the
living, were CYRUS and ELLEN (GUINN) MCKAMEY. His wife, whom he married in Stockwell,
Ind., Sept. 14, 1865, is ELMIRA KITSMILLER, daughter of HAMILTON and MARY (SHILLENBURGH)
KITSMILLER long ago deceased. She was also born in Virginia Nov. 2, 1839. To this marriage
were given five children: ELI, MARY, JOHN, LAURA and WILLIAM, born as named. Comrade
MCKAMEY was employed in farming when the late war between the states began. He was 22
years old when, October, 1861, he was enrolled at LaFayette, Ind., as a private soldier,
casting his lot with Co. A, 40th Ind. V. I. This Regt. was assigned to 2d Brig., 2d Div.,
4th A. C. In the summer of 1863 he suffered from chronic diarrhea and heart trouble but
did not enter hospital, although he was treated in Regtl. quarters three months. The
following are his battles: Crab !
Orchard, Bowling Green, Shiloh, Corinth, Chattanooga, Stone River, Missionary Ridge,
Perryville, Resaca, Big Shanty, Buzzard Roost, Kennsaw Mt., Peach Tree Creek, Siege of
Atlanta, Jonesboro, Spring Hill, Franklin, Nashville and numerous skirmishes. He was
honorably discharged December, 1864, at Nashville, Tenn., his term of service having
expired. Comrade MCKAMEY is a member of Geo. Wright Post, 885, and F. & A. M.; his
wife is a member of the U. B. church; he is a farmer and may be addressed at Kirkpatrick,
Ind.
