OBITUARY
BOYD
Miss Lora, daughter of Mr. Henry Boyd and wife, was born in Tippecanoe County, Indiana,
February 8, 1877, and died at the home of her parents, August 25, 1896, at the age of 19
years, 6 months and 17 days.
The disease that cut short this young and interesting life was consumption. She first
began to complain and to show evident signs of the dread disease working upon her
constitution last March. Nothing availed to stay the progress of her malady, and she
gradually grew weaker till the end came.
Miss Lora was one of those estimable young ladies who win by their noble qualities of head
and heart, the confidence and esteem of all who knew them.
The funeral services were held at the family residence, one-half mile south of Oregon, at
10:30 a.m., August 26, 1896. In the absence of her pastor, Rev. H. H. Sawyers, Rev. T. D.
Roberts, of St, Joseph, conducted the exercises.
Many were present, both old and young, to express their sympathy with the bereaved family
and to pay their tribute of respect to the memory of the deceased. Very noticeable was
the presence of so many young men and women who seemed deeply touched by the death one of
their number.
Many flowers woven into many unique designs, bore evidence to the desire upon the part of
the many friends of the family to do what they could to soften the appearance of death and
make the grief of the broken hearts less poignant.
The interment was at the Maple Grove cemetery at Oregon where the body rests till He who
said, "I go that I may awake him (Sazams) out of sleep" shall come to awake all
the dead in Christ.
The Sentinel joins the many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Boyd and family in extending to them
heart-felt sympathy in this time of sore bereavement.
