AN AGED CITIZEN PASSES AWAY
J. J. Singley, Stricken With Paralysis, Succumbs
Joseph Jeremiah Singley was born December 9, 1834 in Ohio and departed this life November
28, 1910, at his home near Meade. In 1942[sic] (1832) he moved with his parents to
Indiana.
On June 1859 he was married to Almeda J. Kendall, who died in 1860. No children were born
to this union. In 1863 he was married to Miss Theresa Johnson, moving to Butler county,
Kansas, in 1885. He again suffered the loss of his wife in 1899.
In April 1901 he moved to Meade county which has since been his home. Seven children
were born to this union, five of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Mrs. Emma J.
Hulbert and Jasper Singley.
A niece, Lucretia Raymond, who suffered the loss of her mother at the age of nine months
was taken and cared for as one of their own and with the children mourn the loss of a kind
and loving father.
In early life he was united with the United Brethren church and throughout his life
endeavored to follow closely the teachings of the master.
Services were conducted by Rev. J. M. Robinson of Lakin, Kansas, and the remains were
taken to Lafayette, Indiana where he will be laid to rest.
