Hi Ken,
My great-grandfather, Carl Horn, was born 12/03/1872 in Lonneker, Friesland, The
Netherlands and died 10/13/1908 in Lafayette, IN. This I found in the Lafayette Journal
dated October 13, 1908. 'Carl Horn died at noon today at St. Elizabeth's hospital,
his demise being due to blood poisoning. He had been in the institution for some time. Mr.
Horn was born in Holland and came to this country a year ago last August. He was
thirty-five years old and leaves a widow and six children. One of the children is still
living in Holland. Mr. Horn was injured by a Monon train a few months ago. The body was
taken from the hospital to the Evans-Scheffee establishment to be prepared for burial. The
remains will be moved to the family residence, 1111 North Sixth Street, tomorrow, and the
funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial in Springvale.'
Uncle Guy was born 04/26/1883 in Henglo, Friesland, The Netherlands and died 01/26/1947 in
Lafayette, IN. All I have on him is he was employed as a blacksmith's helper at the
Monon Shops and was amember of the International Brotherhood of Blacksmiths and Helpers,
Local 412. On the marriage license dated 10/04/1927, Uncle Guy's occupation was listed
as a blacsmith's helper at the Monon Shops. At the time of his death (attributed to a
heart attack), he resided by himself at 1417 North Sixteenth street, Lafayette. I'm
not sure when his employment on the Monon was exactly, but I do know that he arrived on
Ellis Island on 12/23/1908.
Any information on either of them about working on the Monon would be appreciated. Thanks,
Mary
