I am interested in a house that used to be in Perry twp, Sec 28, along CR
775 E on the west side of the road. This land (40 acres) was owned by
Catherine BARR from 1850 to her death in 1866, then was in a lifetime trust
for her husband, Abraham Barr, until he died in 1873. On a map from about
1900, it is marked C. LENTZ. In maps from 1850 to 1900 there is a house site
marked, considerably back from the road toward the southern end of the land,
although I'm not sure this is the same house showing on earlier maps. After
that in 1941 and 1949 the land is owned by Wm BRATZ; these maps don't
identify houses, so I can't tell where the house was then. he sold it off in
small pieces until in 1975 he owned only 9 acres. Other pieces in 1975 were
owned by R and L FELDT (14 acres, with a house) and a strip along the road
divided into small plots, according to the plat map. Driving along there
today I see several small lots with house built in the 1960s and a number of
larger homes being built today. I seem to remember an old house on that
land, but I'm not sure it is in the right position to have been the house
showing on the earlier maps. It was either thoroughly remodeled or torn down
in the 60s, when the houses were built along the road then.
This area is south of Monitor, which is on SR 26. CR 775 goes south out of
Montor and turns right at the southern end of the old Barr property, goes
east a short distance, then turns again and changes number to 800. It
continues south to Haggarty lane (200S).
I believe I have located (with help) a picture of the house Catherine and
Abraham left in Lancaster Co when they came here in 1836. Would like to see
what sort of house they built when the settled here.
Thanks,
Susan
