Rose Santomieri
Rose Santomieri died on Nov. 23, 2004, in Carmichael. Born Frances Rose Gannon on Feb. 24,
1927, in West Lafayette, Ind., she was 77.
While growing up in Indiana, she competed in diving until the Olympics was suspended for
World War II. She worked as a lifeguard while in school and won the Indiana State
Women's Bowling Championship in college. After graduating from Purdue University with
a bachelor of science degree, she joined United Airlines as a flight attendant.
In 1950, she left the airlines to marry Col. Lucion N. Powell and move to Germany.
Subsequently, they were stationed at several Air Force bases throughout the continental
United States before they retired to Vacaville in 1964.
Rose Powell then joined Talbot Realty and shortly thereafter obtained her real estate
broker's license. In 1970, she married Dr. Louis S. Santomieri and they moved to
Davis, where she continued to sell real estate until her retirement in 2002 from Lyon Real
Estate.
Her hobbies included traveling, growing roses and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents and both of her husbands.
She is survived by her daughters, Keenan Powell of Anchorage, Alaska, and Patricia Croy of
Folsom; grandchildren, Rory Bryant, Erin Powell, Travis Croy and Celia Croy;
great-grandson Dylan Powell; her sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Harry Fargo of
Indianapolis, Ind., and the Fargo children and grandchildren.
