SUDDEN DEATH OF ALEX. SHERIDAN
The many friends of Alexander L. Sheridan will be surprised to learn of this death which
occurred at 4 o'clock this morning. His death was sudden and unexpected and will be a
source of regret to a large circle of friends.
Friday afternoon Mr. Sheridan complained of feeling unwell but was able to be around. At
2 o'clock Saturday morning he was seized with a severe congestion of the stomach with
which he was prostrated and which resulted in his death this morning. Medical treatment
was of no avail and he died in agony, attended by his devoted wife and mother.
Alexander Sheridan was born October 16, 1848, at what is known as Sheridan's Grove on
the Little Wea. His father, Paul Sheridan, who was one of the early settlers and best
known residents of the county, died in 1851. Seventeen years ago the deceased with his
mother came to this city and for years have made their home on North Ninth street. Seven
years ago Mr. Sheridan was married and his wife, together with his mother and a brother,
John Sheridan, of Texas, survive him. To the mother and relatives and to the widow is
extended the sincerest sympathy of the community.
The funeral will take place from the residence at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon.
Revs. W.B. Riley and W.P. Kane will conduct the services and the funeral will be in charge
of Wabash Encampment No. 6 and Lafayette Lodge No. 15 I.O.O.F., of which the deceased was
a member of high standing.
Through life Mr. Sheridan was a man who commanded the respect of all who knew him. Honest
and thrifty he was possessed of ample means and in his business as well as social
relations he carried the same straightforward manner and address which gained him so many
friends who will ever revere his memory.
Among those of the relatives who will be here to attend the funeral will be Mrs. Southard
and children, of Frankfort; James Aiken and Henry Lemon, of Chicago; and Mrs. M.M. Barnes
and Mrs. Hiram Kerlin, of Delphi.
