CASWELL, BELLINGTON
Although I posted here many years ago, I thought it was worth posting again. I am
searching for any information on Peleg Caswell, as well as trying to find any of his
descendants.
Peleg Caswell b.1807 in NY married Nancy BELLINGTON in Madison Co. NY. In 1858 Peleg was
in
Quindero, Kansas. By 1845 Peleg had a Tavern License in Lafayette. The 1850 Tippecanoe
Co. Lafayette Census lists Peleg, his wife Nancy with Sarah (16), Edward (14), Henry
(12), Peleg (10), Catherine (3), Rose E. (5/12) and
Phoebe (30, born in Novia Scotia, cannot read or write, very likely a maid). In 1859
Peleg (Sr.) died intestate in Quindero Kansas.
The only heirs recognized by the Probate court were Nancy, his wife; Sally, Henry, Peleg,
and Catherine.
The only son I know anything of is Peleg (Jr.) b.1842 in Lafayette, who joined the
Indiana
Volunteers in 1863. After the Civil War he returned to his wife Betty ZANE in Lafayette
to
open a candy business. He also sold candy at fairs. For unknown reasons he returned to
NY
state and died in 1898 by falling of a bridge while drunk. This is my line of the family.
We continue in the candy business still.
Thanks
