Details of Plans.
The Farmers¹ and Traders¹ bank will soon have one of the finest homes in the
state. For some time President Alvin C. Baker and the directors have been
considering plans for remodeling the old Coleman building, at Third and
Columbia streets and five architects prepared plans for the work. The
building several months ago was purchased by the bank from the Coleman
heirs, and at a meeting of the directors Friday plans submitted by J. F.
Alexander & Sons were accepted. The estimated cost of the improvement is
$40,000, and the work will require about six months.
Contract to Be Let
The contract for the remodeling of the building will be let in about three
weeks, and in about six weeks the offices of the bank will be located
temporarily in the room formerly occupied by the Neumann Hardware Co. on
Columbia street, just west of Third street. The property is owned by the
Seminole Realty company. The bank will not move from its present quarters,
however, until all the material for the reconstruction of the old building
is delivered on the ground.
Improvements Planned
[...]
The Coleman building was built by Thomas Coleman in 1872 and E. H. Max was
the architect. It was at one time the general headquarters of the Lake Erie
and Western railroad. Mr. Coleman also for years conducted a private bank in
the building. The new improvement will add greatly to the beauty of the
south side of the square.
The Farmers¹ and Traders¹ bank has enjoyed a phenomenal growth and is now
one of the most successful banks in Indiana. Its many friends will be
pleased to know it is to have such a handsome home.
