Meade County News, pg. 1
May 20, 1915
Meade, Kansas
DEPARTED
Frank Bennett, one of Meade's most highly respected citizens, answered that summons
which sooner or later each of us must answer, on Saturday afternoon, May 15, at 3:00
o'clock.
For the past few months Mr. Bennett had been in poor health and less than a month ago,
accompanied by his family, went to Mineral Wells, Texas, with the hope that a change of
climate would prove beneficial, but it soon became evident that the hope was vain, that
his days of usefulness here were few. His parents were notified that his condition was
growing worse, and left for Mineral Wells at once, and with his wife and two children,
were at his bedside when the end came.
It is unnecessary to recall at this time the many excellent traits of character he
possessed, but of which he never boasted. Up until a few days before he left Meade he was
a member of The Southwest Telephone Co., when, due to his poor health, he returned from
the firm. At the time of his death he was serving his third term as a member of the Meade
school board, having been re-elected at the last annual meeting without opposition. He
was deeply interested in the progress of education and the news of his death cast a shadow
of gloom over the entire school.
To his family he was a devoted husband and father, to his church a faithful member, and to
Meade an upright, honorable, citizen who enjoyed the respect and confidence of the entire
community. His life was one which might well be taken as an example, and his untimely
death is regretted by all who knew him.
Frank I. Bennett was born in Lafayette, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, November the 3rd 1871.
With his parents came to Meade County, March 5, 1887, and located near Fowler. On
December 30th, 1894 he was married to Miss Katie C. Krisle, and to this union four
children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Several years ago, with his family he
came to Meade and became a member of the Southwest Telephone Co., in which he remained
until a few weeks before his death. He was a member of the I.O.O.F, The Modern Woodsmen,
and Mason.
He is survived by his wife and two children, Lemuel and Mary, his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
S.M. Bennett, of Fowler, and three sisters, Mrs. A.B. Russell, of Brookston, Indiana; Mrs.
Wm. Harris, of Davenport, Iowa; and Mrs. Ross Drinnen, of Fowler, Kansas.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church at one o'clock, conducted by
Rev. S.M. Hunt, and interment was made in Graceland Cemetery.
