DEATH OF HUNTER PICKENS
The life of Hunter Pickens came to a peaceful close on Thursday morning at 12:45
o'clock at the family residence, No. 1434 Main Street. He had been an invalid for
years, and death was caused by paralysis. He was a native of Ohio and was born on Nov.
17, 1825. He was united in marriage on April 11, 1854, and the wife of that union is
still living. Mr. Pickens was the head of a large family, and six children survive to
testify to his love and kindness.
He came to Indiana with his parents when 14 years old, and located on a farm near Attica.
He was engaged in farming for a number of years and was quite successful. Later he became
a resident of Glen Hall and remained there until impaired health compelled him to retire
from active life, when he came to Lafayette. He was a man of the highest integrity and
enjoyed the confidence and respect of all who knew him.
A short funeral service will be held at the residence tomorrow morning at 8:30
o'clock, Rev. George W. Switzer officiating. The remains will then be taken to Salem
Church, where services will be conducted at 12:30 o'clock by Rev. Wm. Wilmer of
Attica. The remains will be interred in the Salem Cemetery**.
