MEMORIUM
But two weeks ago we told of the death, on election day, of one of our aged and respected
citizens, Mr. John Shorr. At that time his life companion lay sick and we gave expression
to the hope that time would deal gently with the good wife, and that affliction cause her
no suffering for the short sojourn she may remain here. Indeed short and painless was the
remaining hours, for in just one week, the godly mother followed her husband to the
brighter world. For fifty-seven years they had journeyed through this life together and
at the close of life's day, they were also companions in death. How beautiful the
thought, that two gentle, loving lives could be spent in such happy companionship for more
than half-century, and then peacefully lay down the burdens together, with no pangs of
broken ties and lonesomeness to mar the golden sunset of the noble lives.
Mrs. Shorr's maiden name was Barbara Fox. She was born in Prussia, 76 years ago, and
early in life came to this country. In 1851 she was married to John Shorr. To this union
were born six boys and three girls. The children are all living: William and Peter who
live in Lafayette, Indiana; Joe and Nicholas, who live in Logan; and Andrew in Greenfield,
Ohio. The daughters are Mary Ucker and Mrs. Nick Till, of Logan, and Mrs. Fred Till, of
Fort Wayne, Indiana.
The funeral of the saintly mother was held Friday morning of last week from the St.
John's Catholic church, and she was laid to rest by the side of her life's
companion.
