HORRID AFFAIR-A terrible murder was committed near Wild Cat Bridge in Tippecanoe County, a
few days since. An old man, named Cephus Ferenburgh, and his two sons, occupied a house
together. During the night they were awakened by some person who appeared friendly,
requesting them to admit him into the house, when the deceased arose and opened the door.
There were three participants in the affair; one of whom immediately went to the bureau,
and endeavored to open one of the bureau drawers. At this point, the old man, who had
been lying quietly in bed, attempted to interfere; when he was knocked senseless by a club
in the hands of one of the assailants. The son who opened the door had in the meantime
been killed. At this juncture, the other brother, also had been awakened by the noise,
seized a poker, and succeeded in putting the murderers to flight.
The neighborhood was soon aroused, and under the direction of the Marshall and police, by
noon, the following arrests have been made: Timothy Driskell, Joe Pivott, Abe Rice, Aaron
Beeman, Peter Driskell, Tom Longley, D. Clark, and Sam Pivott, who, from information
received by the police, were suspected of being concerned in the crime. The robbery was
attempted for the purpose of obtaining some $2,000 in money and valuables, which was
supposed to be in the house.- Mich. City Enterprise.
