Is anyone researching a George Patterson who left Lafayette for
California to search for gold in 1849? While searching Ancestry's
historical newspaper database this afternoon, I came across a nice
article about this group, published Sunday, Sept. 15, 1974, in the Daily
Review, Hayward, California. It primarily focuses on George Patterson
and gives the names of his wife and children, and tells a little bit
about life on his ranch. This George Patterson married Clara Hawley in
1877.
I didn't see names of any of the other members of the Lafayette 49er group.
I have an ancestor who left New York for California about that time,
also in search of gold, and he was never heard from again. I would
really love to find something like this about him!
I will eventually get this typed up and posted on the GenWeb site,
possibly even tonight. My eyes are a little gravely right now, so it all
depends.
