John William Weil, who for fifty years has resided on the Dayton Road three miles east of
the city, died at 8 o'clock last evening of infirmities of age. He was born in
Erkheim (Village) Frankfort on the Main, January 21, 1832. He came to this country
seventy-three years ago and has been a resident of this vicinity every since. On December
12, 1856, he was united in marriage to Caroline Elizabeth Maurer, who died ten years ago.
Six children were born to them, of whom three survive; Mrs. A. L. Ross of Chicago; Emma
and Caroline. He was one of the pioneer gardeners of Lafayette and was engaged in that
business during all of his active years. Mr. Weil was a life long member of the Methodist
church. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.
