E.O. McCormick dies suddenly at California home.
Noted Railroad Executive was born here and began successful career on L.E. & W.
Mr. McCormick was a member of an old and highly esteemed Lafayette family and was educated
in the public schools of this city. He began his railroad career in the operating
department of the Lake Erie and Western railroad in 1878. Later he was in the freight
department of the Monon in this city and from here he went to Louisville, KY, to be
general agent of the Great Eastern freight line.
His next position was that of city ticket agent from the Monon in Louisville. From there
he went to Chicago where he became general passenger and ticket agent of the Monon. From
1889 to 1893 he was general passenger and ticket agent of C. H. and D. From 1893 to 1899
he was passenger traffic manager of the Big Four railroad.
In 1899 he went to the Southern Pacific railroad at San Francisco as passenger traffic
manager. He held this position until 1904, when he was made assistant traffic director of
the U. P. and S. P. system as well as the Oregon Short Line railroad and navigation
company. In 1910 he became vice president of the Southern Pacific. He was one of the
best known railroad executives in the United States.
Mr. McCormick belonged to the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce and the following clubs:
Pacific Union, Commercial, Down Town Bohemian, Commonwealth Burlinggame Country club, the
Weber club of Ogden, Utah, the Chicago club, Traffic club of Chicago and the Pittsburg
Traffic club. He lived at 2015 Broadway, San Francisco.
Mr. McCormick's first wife was Miss Stella Ewry, a daughter of Jacob Ewry, Lafayette
pioneer. She died many years ago and Mr. McCormick since remarried. He was a brother of
L. L. McCormick who died here recently. Two sisters survive; Miss Edith McCormick, of
this city, Mrs. James T. Payne, of Cincinnati.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov 1,. E.O. McCormick, vice-president of the South Pacific railway died
at his home her today, of heart disease, after a short illness. Mr McCormick had been
with the Southern Pacific since 1899. He was born in Lafayette, Ind.

His frist marriage was to Mary Estelle Ewry in Dec. 1883.
His second wife is not known to me.
