JOHN D. WARWICK, deceased, was one of the earliest of the pioneers of Tippecanoe County.
He was born in the year 1797, and in his youth went to Clarke County, Ohio, where he was
married to Miss Lucinda Evans [should be Edwards]. In the summer of 1827 he came to
Tippecanoe County, and entered land on section 7, Sheffield Township, on which he lived
several years, making some improvements on the place. The patent for this land, which is
now in possession of his son Robert P., bears the signature of President John Q. Adams,
and is dated January 30, 1828. The patent for the land on section 34, Perry Township,
bears the signature of President Jackson, dated April 2, 1829, and on this land he made a
permanent settlement. He was accidentally killed while engaged in loading a sled with
logs. His widow subsequently married Roller Widener. John D. Warwick and wife had six
children of whom two died in childhood-William the oldest, and Alonzo, the youngest. Four
are yet living-Robert P.!
, and George W., residents of Perry Township; Austin C., in California; and Mrs. Sally
Gregory in Kansas. John D. Warwick did not live many years after coming to Tippecanoe
County, but is still remembered by the surviving pioneers as a worthy citizen.
