Oh my gosh Eleanor, you are an angel. An obituary would be great. Living
in Oregon sure keeps me from being able to do much research on my Smith
line in Indiana. It's not easy to get offers of help on a Smith line. Can't
say that I blame anyone, ha ha.
To help determine if any of the Elizabeths that you find an obituary for
is mine, here are Elizabeth's siblings....
Phillip...never married that I know of
Abner E. (mrd. 1st...Mahala Washburn...2nd...Nancy Jane Rutledge)
Sarah Ann (married Alfred Watts)
Nancy C. (married Henry Searle)
Mahala.....apparently died young
Elizabeth...either didn't marry or married a Smith
Her parents are John B. Smith and Elizabeth Liggett/Parker/Smith.
I don't think that the Thomas B. Smith that you mentioned is the same one
the one I found in the censuses as 1859 would have been too late of a
birth date. My Elizabeth was born 1838-1839.
I have been trying to figure out what happened to my Elizabeth Smith for 9
years now. When I found the one in Tippecanoe county, I was really excited
as the death certificate for Elizabeth's brother, Abner, stated that he
was born in Lafayette, Indiana abt. 1840. I looked up Lafayette and seen
that it is in Tippecanoe county. Then I have Elizabeth's father's probate
papers (1901) which says that Elizabeth lives near New Richmond. New Richmond
is in Montgomery county but is very near the border of Tippecanoe county.
The Elizabeth that was in Jackson twp. stated on the censuses that her
father was born in New Jersey and mother was born in Ohio. That's where my
Elizabeth's parents were born. Do you have any idea what part of Tippecanoe
county, Jackson twp. was in?
I am willing to pay whatever costs that you might incur for the obits. I
once had a bad experience with a library charging me $15 an hour for a look
up and then said there was nothing found. I paid $45 for that and then
when I went I went to Iowa to my sister's funeral, I went to that library and
easily found the info my self. I was pretty upset.
I am sorry that I am rambling on. I am going to say thank you once again
for the quick reply and offer of help. I will cross my fingers that you have
some luck helping me to find Elizabeth. Cheryl
