I am looking for an Elizabeth Smith that was born abt. 1839 in
Indiana(probably Tippencanoe or Fountain county)
In 1901 Elizabeth still has the last name of Smith so I thought that
maybe she never married. But now I find an Elizabeth/Eliza Smith in the
censuses (Jackson twp., Tippecanoe county, Indiana) that was born in Indiana
(1837-1839), parents born N.J. and Ohio. This all fits. This Elizabeth is
married to Thomas B. Smith in the censuses. In 1870 there is also a Mahala
Smith in the household that fits the time frame and birth place of Elizabeth's
sister, Mahala. So, I thought I would send off for a death record for this
Elizabeth Smith who apparently died between 1920-1930 to see if she is the
Elizabeth that I am looking for. After checking the Indiana death index,
I find that there were several Elizabeth Smith's that died between
1920-1930! I don't want to have to spend $10-$15 an hour for research to find
out which one of these Elizabeth Smith's may be mine (and maybe none are).
Does any one have any clues on how to find out which one of these Elizabeth
Smith's may be the daughter of John B. and Susannah Liggett/Smith BEFORE I
send off for a record?
Also......is Jackson twp. in Tippencanoe county, any where near New
Richmond, in Montgomery county? My Elizabeth Smith lived NEAR New Richmond in
September of 1901. I would appreciate any advice/help. Thanks, Cheryl in
rainy Oregon
Cheryl
In answer to your question about the location of New Richmond and Jackson Township. New
Richmond is in Coal Creek Township, Montgomery County, . Jackson Township is in Tippecanoe
County. The county line is about 2 miles north of New Richmond.
Hope this helps
