I used TIPCOA recently to research my HARNETT ancestors and I was
thrilled with the results. Just in case some of the list members are
not aware of this service - TIPCOA will research a surname for $15.00.
The researcher will check the sources available to them (see below) for
your surname. Dorothy Van Cleef was the researcher who responded to my
request. I got back dates of land transactions, an article about grist
mills and the mill my Elijah Harnett started in Shelby Twp., a copy of
the court record of Elijah's charges for affray and assault and battery
(!) in 1838 to which he plead guilty and was charged $2.50, and the
marriage record of my g-g-grandmother Eliza Jane and her sister
Delilah. I urge the list members to make use of this wonderful
service! It's especially great for those of us who live too far away to
look for ourselves. I've copied the info below from their brochure:
