Adina has given a nice summary of local resources.
I'd add that the Purdue HSSE Library has a good collection of county
histories and a number of other resources, including newspapers on
microfilm starting about 1910. Since they let people check out their
genealogy books, they are not always on the shelves, however. And the West
Lafayette library has some genealogy books, also. There is also a Family
History Center at the LDS church in West Lafayette. The address is 3224
Jasper Street, West Lafayette. The hours change from time to time. The card
I have says M TH F Sat 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM and T W 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM.
Phone of the church (765) 463-5079 and of the director: (765) 583-2539. The
location is in a residential area and a bit hard to find. TIPCOA has the
details and can direct you.
I've never been able to get to the courthouse library in Delphi. I believe
they are only open during working hours during the week. But the library in
Delphi is (or at least used to be) open on Saturdays and has a number of
good local resources, including a computer database. You can get answers by
mail from their genealogist (I don't have the name handy) for the cost of
any photocopies you need.
The Clinton County library in Frankfort (Clinton County) also has a
genealogist who will answer queries by mail. They have a nice collection of
family history books and other resources on a few open shelves and the
local paper on microfilm. They have some information on Tippecanoe and
Boone counties as well as Clinton, and also other states such as Virginia
and Pennsylvania. I had been working on one line with no luck for years and
found a book there that took the line straight back to Switzerland. You
never know where you will find the key.
Warren County also has a genealogy library, but I don't have info on it.
TIPCOA probably does. I wrote once to Montgomery County (I think it was the
public library), and they sent me some good information, but I've never
been there.
