Hi Again,
I just found an interesting tid bit, in an article from Peter Smith Of
Jamaica, Long Island and some of his Descendants.
William Werden SMITH b July 7, 1835, in Clark County, Ohio d in May 1919. On
June 1, 1859, mar. in New Carlisle, Ohio, Melissa E. JOHNSTON, b about 1840;
d Dec. 25, 1915, a daughter of James JOHNSTON, for many years a paper
manufacturer in Springfield, Oh. and his wife, Mary Burgess. An extended
sketch of William Werden's career is given in Past and Present in
Tippencanoe, Ind. 1909, pp. 789-99. It also gives a very clear account of his
father's early life as a farmer, teacher, lumberjack, and butcher. In the
1860's William Werden was living in Union Township, Ind.Where he was elected
a Trustee and served four terms. He was nominated and elected County
Treasurer in 1884 and he became a Vice-President of the Merchants National
Bank in Lafayette, Ind. He had four children: Marcellus L, m. Rosa MOTE,
Carrie B. m Adam WALLACE, Werdie Poe, m Gertrude FORT, Deloss Wood m Clara
LANG.
If someone has the time could they look into the Past and Present in
Tippencanoe, Ind. and look for this that was mentioned above. His son
Marcellus L. is my Gg grandfather.
Thank you
