JACOB DAVIS, an active and enterprising citizen of Lauramie Township,
was born in Ross County, Ohio, in 1837, a son of DANIEL DAVIS, a native
of Sullivan County, Indiana, who is now deceased. Our subject was
reared on the home farm, and in his boyhood attended the schools of this
neighborhood, where he received a common-school education. He learned
the carpenter's trade when a young man, which he has since followed much
of the time. He was married October 7, 1860, to MISS SARAH BRYANT, a
daughter of ABSALOM BRYANT, deceased. Six of the eight children born to
this union are living, their names being as follows--JEPHTHA, DANIEL,
CHARLES, WILLIAM, PERRY, and ETTIE. Two daughters died in early
childhood.

well improved and under good cultivation, where he resides, engaged in
farming and stock-raising, and is classed among the substantial farmers
of his township. In connection with his agricultural pursuits he yet
