Hi All,
I am excited about this new list. I will help get the ball rolling
with one of my problem families from Tippecanoe Co.
John LAYMAN, b 1790, PA was found in the 1850 census with his wife
Rachel (SYKES)b 1801, OH and ten children. One of the children had the
surname DAVIS and was 13 years old--about in the middle of the range of
children's ages. (21 down to 3) Living near them were two young LAYMAN
men, Jacob and Joseph, with their wives and children.
My questions are:
1.)Were Jacob and Joseph sons on John LAYMAN?
2.)Was Rachel the mother of all the children? (Jacob was born about
1825 when Rachel would have been 14, and in 1847 when the youngest was born
she would have been 46.)
3.)Who was George DAVIS, age 13? My three conjectures are that he
could have been a nephew they took in when his folks died OR a boarder,
hired to help on the farm, OR that he could have been Rachel's son by a
first marriage. That would make Rachel the mother of only the last few
children, and then I'm stuck for the mother of the first ones.
Thanks for any help you can give.
