I am interested in information about happenings in Dayton and Sheffield
township, Tippecanoe County, Indiana, during the years of the Civil War,
about 1861-1865. This area is east of Lafayette, with the east boundary
touching the Clinton County/Tippecanoe County line. I have gleaned quite a
bit of information from local records and newspapers of the time, and from
biographes published in the years after the war, etc. I also was thrilled
recently to receive a book of a number of letters between a local soldier
and his family. I am particularly interested in what the women and folks at
home were doing. I can find what the soldiers were doing from published
histories of the various units (esp. 72nd IN and 40th IN), but what those
at home were doing is harder to find. I am also interested in the private
secondary school that was in town then: Dayton Union Seminary, later known
as the Dayton ME Academy.
Thanks in advance.
