JOHN SKINNER, a worthy representative of one of the early pioneer families
of Tippecanoe County, is a native of Indiana, born in Franklin County, April
18, 1822, a son of WILLIAM SKINNER, who came to this county in 1830, and
settled in Lauramie Township near the present home of our subject. JOHN
SKINNER was but a lad when brought to this county, and here he grew to
manhood, being reared on a frontier farm, and receiving in his youth such
educational advantages as the pioneer schools of that early day afforded.
He has made farming the principal vocation of his life, but for a few years
in early manhood he followed the shoemaker's trade. He is now the owner of
a tract of 330 acres, and is numbered among the well-to-do citizens of his
township. He was united in marriage April 17, 1862, to Miss NANCY STORMS,
who was born in Tippecanoe County, October 28 1831, a daughter of DANIEL
STORMS, deceased, who settled in this county in an early day. Five children
were born to this union, three of whom are now living--DANIEL A. born June
20, 1863; MORTON, born March 28, 1867, and FLORENCE E., born December 29,
1874. WILLIAM S. born June 17, 1865, and an infant are deceased. Mr. and
Mrs. SKINNER are Methodists, and are numbered among the respected citizens
of Lauramie Township, where they have made their home for so many years.
