Hello Everyone. I am new to the list, and quite new to genealogical
research too.
I have just recently discovered that my great great grandfather was Dr.
John A. HALL who married Hannah Elizabeth BEMISS on October 1, 1848, in
Tippecanoe, Indiana. This date was found on a website listing Indiana
marriages, but I'm not sure where to write for a copy of this record, so I'm
hoping that one of you can provide me with an address where I could write to
obtain a copy.
John and Hanna had four children all born in Indiana: Charles H.H. HALL
born about 1851, Elmon T. HALL born about 1852, Harry A. HALL born about
1853, and Mary Elizabeth HALL born about 1860. The obituary for Harry
states that he was born in Lafayette, Indiana, which is in Tippecanoe
County. I would assume all the children were probably born there, since the
parents were married in Tippecanoe County. The family left Indiana
sometime prior to 1870 when they were listed on the U.S. census in Danville,
Vermilion Co., Illinois.
I would like to also obtain copies of birth records on all four children if
they would be available, but have no idea if births were recorded in Indiana
that far back. Perhaps one of you, with experience researching in Indiana,
could let me know if these would be available.
I also would like to obtain copies of census records for 1850 and 1860
listing the family. Would it be possible for some one to do these look ups
for me and mail me copies. I would be happy to reimburse for expenses. I
live in Oregon, and most out of state census records are not readily
available to me here. If not, perhaps one of you knows of a library or
genealogical society where I could write to obtain copies of the census
records.
Any help, suggestions , etc. would be greatly appreciated. I would like to
find out as much as I can about this family, and I am not at all familiar
with what resources would be available for genealogical research in Indiana.
Thanks,
Maggie Hall
