You are right! It is New Richmond, not Richmond. I have a probate paper for my gr gr
grandfather, John B. Smith, father of Elizabeth, Abner, Sarah, Phillip, Mahala and Nancy.
The probate paper is dated Sept., 1901 and states that Elizabeth is living near New
Richmond. I always thought that because Elizabeth's surname was still Smith in 1901
(she was born 1839) that she must have never been married. Now I am thinking that this
Elizabeth that was married to Thomas B. Smith is my Elizabeth. In 1870, Thomas and
Elizabeth are living in Jackson, Tippecanoe county, Indiana. That's just at the
border of Montgomery and/or Fountain county if I remember right. In that 1870 census
Elizabeth states that her father was born in New Jersey and her mother in Ohio. Which
fits perfectly as does her birth year. Is there some way to find out what this
Elizabeth's parents names were? That would cinch it for me and break down a big brick
wall.
I found an Eliza E. Smith, born November 30, 1839 died March 25, 1914, buried in New
Richmond Cemetery, Montgomery county, Indiana. In the same cemetery is a Thomas B. Smith
who died March 18, 1914, just one week before this Eliza died. I am thinking more and
more that this is my Elizabeth (C. or E.) Smith but I need proof. Guess what I really
need to do is go to Montgomery county, Indiana to ask for a look up! Cheryl

Do you perhaps mean NEW Richmond? New Richmond is not in Tippecanoe Co, either,
but it is more within the orbit of Tippecanoe Co than is Richmond, in Wayne Co.
I think New Richmond is in either Montgomery or Fountain county. Would have to
look it up.

ANYONE has extra time......I have been looking for a burial date/place for an
Elizabeth Smith who lived near the Richmond area in Tippecanoe county in the
early 1900's. She was born abt. 1839 in Indiana. Her parents were John B.
Smith(b. abt. 1810 N.J.) and Susannah Liggett (b. abt. 1810, Ohio). Elizabeth
married a Thomas Smith, possibly a cousin and had 2 sons John and Charles. I
would gladly pay for time/costs for this look up as long as there is some
documentation that it's the right Elizabeth Smith and as long as the costs are
discussed before hand. Elizabeth's parents were found first in Fountain county,
Indiana and then in Vermilion county, Illinois. Crossing my fingers and hoping
for a break.....Cheryl in rainy Oregon.
