RICHARD D. CONNELL, an active and enterprising businessman of Lafayette,
and a member of the firm of Lancaster & Connell, undertakers and embalmers,
is a native of Tippecanoe County, Indiana, born in Lafayette, a son of
JOHN CONNELL, a native of Ireland, who came from Toledo, Ohio, to this
county in 1849. After coming to Lafayette in 1849 he engaged in contracting
and building, which he followed until his death in 1860.
RICHARD D. CONNELL, the subject of this sketch, has spent twenty years
in the express business in Lafayette, three and a half years of that time
in the service of the United States Express Company, and the remainder
in the employ of the American Express Company as cashier. In February,
1886, the present firm of Lancaster & Connell was established, the senior
member of the firm being H.H. LANCASTER. MR. CONNELL is a membe of the
Catholic Benevolent Legion, and also of the Young Men's Hibernian Society,
holding the office of collector in the former and that of trustee in the
latter society.
