This sounds like the Baker cemetery. It is supposed to be one of the
oldest cemeteries in the township. As Jon Grimes and Pat Ricks reported
in "A Remembrance of Things Past," at the corner where their land met,
four of the early settlers in the township, in 1824, set aside land
for a cemetery, to be named after the family who had the first death.
A small Baker girl was the first to die. Because it was winter when she
died and the ground was frozen, she was placed in a hollow log and
buried in the spring. I believe another source reports that she died
enroute, and her body was later recovered and buried in this cemetery.

There is a small cemetary just off St Rd 38 E on 900
E. Not sure if there is a name for it or not. Here
are some names on the headstones:
DeVoss, Loft, Brugh, McDowell, Kuhns, Barnhart, Bury,
Lewis, Wimmer, Fawbush, Smart, Newton, Cooper,
Browning, Smith, Thompson. Most of these have dod
around the end of the 1800, first of 1900's but not
all. Some of them are in family plots.
Very Old Stones (hard to read) Payne, Cosner, Boyes,
Black, Baker, Patton, Steen, Bul, Graft, Baier,
Clark, Hendrickson, Bartness(?). Some of these have
dod in mid to late 1800's.
I would be happy to visit again and get names and
dates for those of you who want them. Please email me
at cccbunch(a)yahoo.com. Please provide the first and
last names and dates if possible.
