W. B. MORGAN, one of the leading agriculturists of Shelby Township, was
born in Crawfordsville, Montgomery County, Indiana, July 17, 1855, a son
of A. J. and DORA (CLEVERLY) MORGAN, his father now deceased. He was reared
at this birthplace, and received his education in the schools of that city,
and when fifteen years old he commenced working at the painter's trade,
which he has since followed the greater part of the time.
May 7, 1882, he was married to MISS MARTHA HAGGARD, of Crawfordsville,
a daughter of JOHN and MARTHA (THACKER) HAGGARD. In 1884 MR. MORGAN settled
on his present farm in Shelby Township, which he purchased from W.T. Foster.
The farm contains 200 acres of as good land as the township affords, and
everything about his place indicates the care and thrift of the proprietor.
His residence, which is one of the best in his township, was built in 1885,
at a cost of $1,700, and is well furnished throughout. Though but a young
man, and a late resident of Shelby Township, Mr. Morgan has gained an enviable
position both socially and financially, and by his fair and honorable dealings
he has won the respect and confidence of all who know him. In politics
he affiliates with the Democratic party.
