JOHN R. SWAYNIE - John R. Swaynie died at his home, twelve miles north of this city,
yesterday morning, after an illness of two weeks. Mr. Swaynie was born in Clark county,
Ohio, April 5, 1839, and came to Tippecanoe county with his parents in 1866, where he has
lived ever since. At the outbreak of the Civil war he joined the 120th Ohio Volunteers,
and served faithfully as a soldier. On March 16, 1869, he was married to Miss Lydia
Fouts, who survives. To this union were born six children: Charles, Clinton and Jesse,
all of this county; Eldo Swaynie, of Big Rapids, Mich.; and two daughters, Mrs. Moses
Ray,(sic) and Mrs. Joseph DeFrees, both os this county. He is also survived by four
sisters, two brothers, and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be held from the family
home tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock, Rev. Montgomery of West Point, officiating.
Interment will be made in Sugar Grove cemetery. - July 29, 1918 Lafayette J&C
