I am not related but I work on SHeffield Twp and Dayton, Indiana local history and
genealogy. I'm glad to learn more about the Davids and the Recobs. They were in
Sheffield Township early (1827) and entered land both the east and west of Dayton. I had
not traced them.
There is a legal notice transcribed on the intippecanoe rootsweb site about a Recob estate
where one of the parties is John David and wife Mary Recob. It is amazing to me that white
settlement had just begun, and legalities had already been established.
There is a Joseph David, age 21 with wife and child enumerated immediately before John
David in Sheffield twp in 1850. Could this be another son?
I found John David in Clark Co, IL in the 1855 State census and "Palina" David
in Clark Co, IL in 1860. As you note, she remarried in that county in 1864.
There is an elderly John David in Colfax, Clinton Co Indiana in 1870 living with a family
that appears at first glance to be his daughter Martha and her husband Isaac Dukes. But
since Permelia David is in Clark Co, Illinois in 1860 with both Parvis and David children
but without John, it looks as if he had died by 1860. Besides, others show Martha David m.
Hugh Cochran. Who is the John David, 72 (b. 1797-98), VA, in Colfax, Clinton Co in the
1870 census? He is too old to be a son of John David b. 1787.
