Mrs. Margaret (Wall) Shaffer, 84, widow of Jacob Merville Shaffer, and a resident of
Lafayette practically her entire life, died Thursday evening at 5:40 o'clock at the
family residence, 428 Asher street. She had been bedfast for 18 months, suffering with a
blood clot on the spinal column. A native of Rochester, N.Y., she was born March 17, 1853,
and married Mr. Shaffer, June 30, 1873. He preceded her in death September 26, 1911. Mrs.
Shaffer was one of the oldest members of St. Mary's Catholic church and was a member
of the first class to receive first holy communion in the present church. She was also a
member of the Altar-Rosary society and the Sacred Heart league. She leaves four children,
George and Floyd Shaffer and Miss Florence Shaffer, of this city, and Robert Shaffer, of
Milwaukee, Wis., also two grandchldren, Sister M. Ruth Solina, of Precious Blood order,
Miamisburg, O., and Gerald Shaffer, of this city, and her stepmother, Mrs. Margaret Wall;
a half brother, !
P. J. Wall, and three half-sisters, the Misses Theresa and Rose Wall and Mrs. Frances
Wall Royal, all of this city.
Friends may call at the residence after noon Saturday, Services will be held Monday at
9 o'clock from St. Mary's church. Interment in St. Boniface cemetery. Vianco,
funeral director, in charge.
