Robert M. Shaffer, 76, of 103 Asher Street, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday in St. Elizabeth
hospital where he had been a patient since Dec. 7. He had been ill since August.
Born in Lafayette, he formerly was in the cigar business with a brother, George, at Ninth
and Main Streets. Later he traveled for the Barber asphalt company and still later was a
stationary engineer in Milwaukee, Wis. where he lived several years. At the death of his
wife, Patra, in 1936 he returned to Lafayette to live with a brother, Floyd A. Shaffer, at
the Asher street address. He was a janitor in Jefferson high school for a time and was
last employed as janitor in the Mars theater. He belonged to St. Mary cathedral.
Survivors are the two brothers, George E., of Fort Wayne, and Floyd A., of Lafayette.
