Jody-
I just ran into the same problem with an ancestor of
mine. She died in Tippecanoe County and was even
buried there but no death record.
A few weeks ago I ran into that problem in Montgomery
County, Indiana and found the man I was looking for,
William Corns, listed as William Coons with a death
date 3 weeks later than the newspaper obituary. I'd
say there's a good chance that's what happened with
your ancestor since his name is unusual.
I'll print out your e-mail and the next time I'm in
the County Building I'll see if I can't find him.

Subject: [INTIPPEC] No Death Record
Hi:
I am new to this list. My GGF, Joseph Zorn, died in
Lafayette, IN just
before 13 Oct. 1897. This information was included
in a newspaper death
notice from Hermann, Gasconade, MO where his funeral
was held on above
date. I have written to the Tippecanoe Co. Health
Dept. They have no
record of his death. Does anyone have any prior
experience like this?
Is it possible someone could have died in Lafayette
in that time frame,
no one reported the death, and the body was
immediately transported to
Missouri? I am curious about this because I have no
idea why he would
have been in Lafayette and had hoped to find some
clue in the death
certificate - like who reported the death. If
anyone out there has some
pertinent info or any ideas, would appreciate a
contact. Jody Nestler
