John Bray the father of this family Enlisted in Cpt. Wm Voss' Co., Col.
James Wood's Virginia Regiment in Sept 1777, apparently in Romney,
Hampshire Co., VA. 3 years service. [Note
that brother in law James Ball enlisted in the same regiment in 1776, as did
brother Federick Bray and future brother in law Edward Roberts.] Applied for
and received a RW pension in 1818. Widow applied for and received pension
after her husband Robert Bakes death in 1847. W 4145
John received on 6 Dec 1784 his Military Bounty Land Warrent #3556 for 100
acres of land for 3 years service. [Note that brother in law Peter DeWitt
received Warrent #3555 on the same day. They were in line together.]
In 1785 John shows up in Nelson Co., VA (now KY) on the tax lists with 2
whites, 1 tithable. [Perhaps a younger brother is with him?] He
continually shows up on the tax lists in Nelson Co., KY from 1785 to 1796.
DOES NOT appear on the 1797 or 1799 lists. By 1818 he was residing in
Switzerland Co., IN till his death. Switzerland Co., IN created 1814 from
Dearborn Co....1814 is when 1st Bray marriage shows up in Switzerland Co.
Haven't checked Dearborn Co. for the Bray family.

According to Robert Richter other children are reported to have been in
Kosciuska Co. Indiana. Also around Cicero and Noblesville, Ind. There have
been 3 or 4 DAR memberships based on Johns Service in the American
Revolution, as well as his father Henry. They have both been microfilmed.
