I have copies of a couple of tintypes that I would like to
identify as having been made in Switzerland County. I sent copies
to the historical museum in Vevay, but they were not able to
identify a studio.
One tintype is a portrait of an individual man. The other is of
three children, a girl approx. 10, a boy approx. 6, and a baby
approx. 1. There is a distinctive wicker chair in both photos,
and I am hoping that someone else will have a photo from the same
studio with the same chair.
I hope to identify these individuals as members of the family of
John Crandall Sisson (1818-1899). The right time frame for the
sequence of 3 children shown would be early 1850s. The adult man
is wearing a cravat. This family left Switzerland Co. for
Crawford Co. in 1858. Later family marriages and births took
place in Orange, Knox, and Gibson counties. There were relatives
living across the border in Gallatin Co., KY, and nearby in Ohio,
so I suppose they could have visited a photo studio in any of
those places too.
Associated surnames of interest: STEPHENSON, FENTON, GLENN.
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving to all.
