Early marriage licenses were recorded sequentially and may, or may not,
have other names, depending upon the age of the parties. Examples from my
files: November 26th 1815. Granted marriage license to John Scott and
Elizabeth Burris, both of this County. December 6th 1815. Granted
marriage License to William Dudgeon and Ann Burris both of this County.
Archibald Scott having made oath that the parents of William Dudgeon had
given their consent. Returns of the officiating minister or J.P. are
interspersed with the licenses, and may be found several pages from the
license. I do not know when the County began to use printed forms to be
filled in. I have one dated September 1859; the license portion has the
names of the bride & groom, the name of the County Clerk, and date of
issuance. The return/certificate portion includes the names of the bride
and groom, date of marriage, and name of the minister. There is no place
for witnesses to sign.

Subject: [INSWITZE-L] What are marriage records like in Switzerland Co?
Date: Thursday, May 20, 1999 2:06 PM
I received an inquiry from someone who wanted to know what marriage
records
were like in Switzerland County, Indiana. She seemed to think that
no
parents were named prior to the 1880's. I have no idea myself. Could
someone describe what the records are like and comment on the extraneous
documents such as consents, bonds, and so forth. Were any of these
documents shipped off to the state archives, or would they be found on
microfilm but not the courthouse?
