I am not familiar with the family in question here, but the names are
familiar. Suggestion: you might try variations on the spelling of
RAILS--i.e. Rayl or Rayles, etc
Ellyn Kern
Yesterday I received the Civil War widow's pension file for
Caroline Sisson, widow of Eli Sisson. By then they were living in
Knox Co., however, Eli Sisson and Caroline Fenton were married in
Switzerland Co. in 1842 and were living Switzerland CO., in
Pleasant township, household 303, in the 1850 census. I have not
been able to find out anything else about Caroline's ancestry.
She stated that she was born in Indiana.
In the pension papers, Caroline states that "her name before her
marriage was Caroline Rails but she had a stepfather named Fenton
and she was sometimes called "Fenton" and may have been married
by that name."
So! Now we're looking for people named RAILS. I notice a Nancy
RAILS, age 67, living in Pleasant township, household 333,
household of John Spears. Nancy says she was born in Maryland.
Possibly Caroline's grandmother? I don't find any marriages for
RAILS before 1850 in the Indiana Marriage Index.
Thank you,
Carol Sisson Regehr
