Thanks for your help, Jean. I was born and raised in Iowa. I've been
researching our family history since I was a young person. I used to sit
around the kitchen table at my grandmother's house and listen to all the old
people talk about their "old people" and the stories about "covered wagons
and Indians." My grandmother used to bring out all the old picture books
and I learned most of the oral traditions. Grandma Walton and another
family member put together a "family history" from things they could
remember, but I have been doing the hard work of researching and documenting
those stories. They were often very accurate! Grandma Walton passed away a
few years ago, and I now have all of her things, i.e., family history, photo
albums, etc.
I can trace the Waltons back to Jerusalem Twp., Ontario County, New York
state, in 1810. Nicholas and Cornelia Walton lived near Penn Yan, New York.
Three children were born there: Isaac (1810 - Isaac may have died as a
child), Zachariah (1811), and Phoebe (1815). They moved to southeastern
Indiana (reason unknown) with several others from that area ca. 1817. Two
more children were born there: Benjamin (my g-g-grandfather - 1818) and
Cornelius (1821). Cornelia (the mother) died on March 11, 1821, most likely
from complications due to the birth of Cornelius. (I do not know where she
is buried.) I have an 1820 Federal Census record that places them in
Randolph Township, Dearborn County, Indiana. I can't find them anywhere in
the 1830 Federal Census records, but a Nicholas, Zachariah and Benjamin all
appear in both Posey and Cotton Townships, Switzerland County, Indiana, in
the 1840 Federal Census records. Phoebe Walton married John Lewis, ca.
1839-1840, and they (and their five children) are listed in the 1850 Federal
Census records in Cotton Township, Switzerland Co., Indiana. (There is a
Nicholas Walton listed in the 1850 Federal Census (Pleasant Twp.,
Switzerland Co., Indiana) married to "Charlotte." Nicholas is listed as 77
years old, and Charlotte is 44. This could be the father, now re-married,
thus the marriage record to Mrs. Charlotte Wilson that I found in the
Indiana marriage records.) From there ... the whole family moved to Rock
Island County, Illinois. Some stayed there, others moved to south-central
Nebraska; Benjamin and his family moved to Hardin County, Iowa, in 1853 and
bought 80 acres--the same farm on which my grandmother lived. Several
family members fought in Illinois infantry regiments during the Civil War;
one died. I've got good records from 1860 to the present, but I'm hoping to
fill in much of the time they lived in Switzerland County, Indiana. This
family grew up there, married there, lived and worked there. There must be
records of their presence.
Thanks for your help (and for any others who can help me)!

I can't leave this alone, not having really helped you earlier.
Checked
the names of Dennis, Hizer, Linville, and Wilson in Swit. Co. cemeteries,
all spouses of Walton family, as you listed below.
