Larry,
I'd be interested in exchanging info with you -- both Gullions and Carvers
are included in my Rayle line. I just returned from a day trip to Switz. Co on
Tuesday!
Gullion and Carver Cemeteries are in York Twp (NE of Vevay). John Gullion
settled in the SW part of Section 35 Twp 2, Range 2N in 1810. That's just east
and north of Markland (Ballard Rd goes up Section 35). Robert Gullion bought
land in 1816 in the NE part of Section 34 (directly north of Markland). I would
think that the family cemetery would probably be in that area near Markland.
The 2002 Switzerland County map that the Accessor's Office has for sale does
not have all the cemeteries marked (or named) as my 1997 map does. The
library in Vevay does have a book with locations on it -- "Switzerland County,
Indiana Cemetery Inscriptions 1817-1985" by Wanda L. Morford. It's the only
cemetery resource of which I'm aware for Switz. County.
Try
http://myindianahome.net/gen/switz/records/cemetery/ for cemeteries (Twps
only) and persons buried. It lists 13 in York Township -- the 2002 county map
shows two (both unnamed, but one is Bethel Ridge), and my 1997 map shows five.
A reminder -- the courthouse is on EST, but much of the town and county are
on EDT.
Phone number for the library is: 812-427-3363.

<< Going to Switzerland County in 10 days.
Could someone give instructions to the Gullion
Cemetery. Also,if anyone needs a tombstone picture,
I will take a digital picture and e-mail. Will also
go to Carver Cemetery, if I find it, and will do
photos there too.
